In an environment where much of the most useful content is simply tltr, many marketers still make the time to go through Mary Meeker's extensive Internet Trends report, the 164 slide, 2014 version of which was presented on Wednesday.
The significance of mobile growth is pervasive in Meeker's report. She noted that the growth rates of internet users and even smart phone ownership are slowing but mobile internet usage is exploding. The good news for those who adopt the mobile-first initiative is that people are spending an amazing amount of time looking at some type of online screen.
Relating directly to social media, Meeker noted trends towards frequent interactions but with a smaller group of social contacts and a preference for single purpose apps over the 'one stop shopping' of the original Facebook.
Smart Insights offered a comprehensive list of 21 key trends identified in the report and Shoutlet found ten impressive stats that social marketers should 'take to heart'.
