Ikea puts together the first Instagram web site (video)

The summer of Instagram

It is early but right now the hottest social network of the summer is Instagram. Marketing Charts summarized a comScore report showing that Instagram now ranks 8th in mobile app penetration (Twitter is 13th and Google+ 14th). This follows upon an April 2014 study from Piper Jaffray showing that Instagram is already the most important network for teens.

Marketers are quickly adapting their efforts accordingly. The most noteworthy effort has come from Ikea's Moscow agency that has built a virtual web site entirely within Instagram. Navigation within the site is hashtag based (and mobile only). Hashtags play a greater role on Instagram than they do on other networks; something that Offerpop has referred to as Instagram's “hyperlink secret”. Convince and Convert explained how the site works along with the take aways for marketers.

Some very good blogs have been offering advice for marketing on Instagram. Search Engine Journal published a comprehensive FAQ/tutorial and Practical Ecommerce listed 10 of the top tools for selling in Instagram. Razor Social described a 5 step program to rapidly grow an Instagram following. The potential for the little known Instagram Direct messaging was analyzed in ClickZ.

When images are involved video is never far behind. ReelSEO provided 7 tips for a successful video marketing campaign on a rapidly moving platform that has been capturing more than its share of marketing attention of late.
