Indexing Tweets

Back on its perch

Twitter has a huge interest in monetizing Tweets outside of its own platform to 'logged off users' and Google is desperately trying to retain its position as a one stop shop for all things search. So, despite the approach of Valentine's Day, it seems mostly a relationship of simple convenience that is leading to Tweets getting more love in Google real time search results.

Search Engine Land published a FAQ on the return of Tweets to Google results (a previous relationship from 2009-2011 ended with Twitter apparently feeling they were giving up too much). Digiday published 5 things that brands should know about the latest deal and the blog 360i included 5 marketing implications for both social and search marketing. Stone Temple Consulting provided data from a recent study on how Google had been indexing a limited number of Tweets as a possible scenario for the future; they used their research to provide guidance on the SEO implications of Tweets returning to Google results.
