Mobile by 4/21 or else

Mandatory Mobile

Google rarely (or never) provides advanced notice of an algorithm change but the upcoming April 21 'mobile friendly' update is different. Google wants everyone to know that their mobile rankings might change significantly, even warning possible offenders via email. This update is unique in that it could even punish sites that are authoritative if they do not render properly on mobile devices, although the drop in rankings should be confined to mobile searches.

Google has added a 'Get Started' section to their Mobile Guide and Search Engine Land published 'Everything You Need To Know' about the update. Moz published key technical questions along with answers from Google's Zineb Ait Bahajji. The most popular infographic of the week was InstantShift's detailed look at mobile SEO.

There is an easy way to see if Google considers your favorite pages to be mobile friendly -- just enter their URLs into Google's Mobile Friendly Test Page.
