Twitter's big Moments

Will Moments Matter?

The time has arrived for Twitter to finally resolve its long standing user engagement problem. On Tuesday they announced a major step with Moments, a manually curated, highly visual service that is based on events and completely independent of any follower lists. Twitter published a brief FAQ on how Moments will work along with a curation policy defining their objectives. Visually, Moments relies heavily on images, Vines and Periscopes to create a rich background for Tweets; the curation presents a major advance over cryptic #hashtag searches.

The journalism blog Poynter evaluated Moments as a potential news source and Ad Age provided the early monetization plan -- there will be “promoted Moments” for brands to announce product launches and other news. Wired recorded a mostly positive response from advertisers, forecasting that good story telling will enable brands to capitalize on what Twitter has always done best -- provide a large audience seeking real time information.
