Mary Meeker on voice

Growing Voice

In 2016 mobile is everything and, at least for search, 20% of everything is now being done by voice. It therefore came as no suprise that the spoken word earned slides 111-131 of Mary Meeker's Internet Trends 2016 report last week. The signals that users send are changing and digital marketers cannot afford to let them go unheard.

Recode has published one of the first quantitative studies showing how consumers are using Alexa, Siri and OK Google and how that usage differs from text queries. Searchmetrics summarized all of the forces behind voice to predict changes in “the way users interact with their devices and connect to you, the marketer”.

Search Engine Land focused specifically on the new challenges presented by Google assistant, starting with the problems that no data is available on the nature of the voice query and that results returned by voice eliminate page visits. Moz allowed Microsoft's Purna Virji to not only provide a comprehensive look at the voice ecosystem but also to provide an early look at how marketers can begin to optimize their content in order to make themselves heard in the voice revolution.
