Internet Trends 2017 (full deck)

Meeker on marketing

On Wednesday Mary Meeker presented her annual Internet Trends report, a highly regarded 355 slide effort covering everything affecting the online and mobile environments. Included in the discussion on mobile growth in Asia, healthcare and gaming were some highly relevant observations on matters more directly relating to digital marketing.

Slide 12 was the first of several showing that the growth is surely in mobile but that desktop levels remain fairly constant. Meeker was showing that, overall, mobile was an addition to desktop more than a replacement. Slide 15 examined the well known Google/Facebook duopoly but slides 28 & 29 seemed to offer some hope by listing opportunities arising on platforms such as Nextdoor and Uber.

The engagement power of user generated content was highlighted on slide 38 and the concept of a “subscription store” emerged on slide 77.

Marketing Land listed 5 e‑commerce takeaways and Social Media Today tried to summarize the digital marketing implications but admitted that the Meeker report remains something that is best reviewed, slowly, in its entirety.
